This year we have chosen two charities that are especially relevant in these difficult times. Sadly, often for no obvious reason, someone ends their own life. So we have chosen the Samaritans, who are always at the end of a phone line to talk to anyone in distress, and Olly’s Future.
Olly’s Future is a suicide prevention charity set up in loving memory of Oliver Hare from Worthing. His mother, Ann Feloy, who is married to Chris Hare, founded the charity five years ago and her team has trained over 10,000 people in skills to spot the warning signs in someone and to talk to ask them about suicide, to help them stay safe. The charity works in particular with young people across the country and abroad. www.ollysfuture.org.uk
Similarly Samaritans’ aim is prevention, and also to support anyone self-harming, among other things. www.samaritans.org
We would love to raise money for these charities with our singing of carols and Christmas songs, accompanied by Worthing Silver Band. There will be a raffle and mulled wine and mince pies (alternatives available, just mention this when you book). So book now to avoid disappointment as we often sell out early. Call in at Reception or phone 01903-230451.
