Dear Indigoer,

Before we launch into talking business and events for the new year and all that stuff I must share with you something that has been niggling me for some time but I think I have now resolved it and it may well be of benefit to you once you have heard the answer.

"Oh just get on with it - what is niggling you and how can it possibly be of benefit to me?" I hear you say

If you just calm down and not be so impatient I will begin.

Satsumas, Mandarin Tangerines and Clementines -what's the difference?

Yes I knew you'd be interested and I am sure you can fully appreciate what a burden it has been not to know the difference and possibly suffer the embarassment and public himiliation at the greengrocers when pointing at the wrong fruit- I might be laughed out of town! ( for my younger readers a greengrocer is a shop of great rarity that sells only fruit and vegetables!)

Satsuma

A seedless citus fruit - similar looking to a mandarin - probably its origins are found in Japan. It is a called Satsuma in England as that is the province of Satsuma in Japan from where the fruit was first exported.

Infact there are four towns in America called Satsuma as they also produce stacks of them.

So should you be sending a Christmas card to someone in Satsuma be certain to address it correctly- otherwise heaven knows where it will end up !

Mandarin

Also known as a Mandarin Orange -it is a variety of the Orange and is also known as a Clemntine or Tagerine- it is also produced in Japan and many other sub tropical places but predominantly in China (these Chinese get everywhere don't they - well good luck to them!)

Are you keeping up? is it becoming clearer ? good then I will continue.

Tangerine

It is closely related to the Mandarin orange - no surprises there!
It is has been cultivated for nearly 3000 years so by my reckoning Jesus Christ may have had one or two - well you never know!
In days of old if you were a native of Tangiers you were known as a Tangerine! and tangerines grew in the region of Tangiers from there they were exported to England.
they are now grown in China and many other places including America!

Recent research in the University of Ontario have shown that substances in tangerines prevent obesity (in mice) and protect against type 2 diabetes and even atheroclerosis which is the underlying disease responsible for heart attacks and strokes.- so get eating!!

Clementine

This is a variety of mandarin and are almost always seedless and are often called seedless tangerines.
It is sometimes referred to as the Algerian tangerine but it must not be confused with satsuma!
The Californians grow them in November and are referred to as the Christmas orange
Also almost 10% of a single clementine is sugar so completely hopeless for dieting!

So now that you know the blatantly obvious differences between these citrus fruits (I feel such a complete fool for being so confused in the first place) you can proudly waltz down the aisles of Tescos and speak with complete authority on this complex subject.Furthermore you may wish to ask your family and freinds whether they know the difference and then impress them with your new found knowledge.

Finally it looks as if summer has arrived- Hooray!

At Indigo we haven’t taken the foot off the peddle.!!- The Heat is on!!!

You will no doubt have received our various offers with our Friday night specials which have been very popular- you no doubt received one this morning! – 20 bookings already! (If you are on email!)

In the past couple of months we have been looking at why Indigo is highly considered and ways we can further build on this enviable position.

We want to not only retain you as our valued client but also broaden our appeal to a wider audience so after speaking with many guests and potential new guests over the past month the following points have kept reoccurring as to why guests kept coming back?

Although we have kept the fixed price lunch menu which has proven very popular other guests have said that they are feeling the pinch and they’d like something cheaper but still excellent Quality!! so………. The new menu Rapide was launched nearly two months ago which is a fixed one main course lunch option- available Monday to Friday (served in 8 minutes if you are in a rush) -guests have been astounded at the quality and value for money- so they should be!!

Our new menu has a greater variety of dishes with more focus and identity which we believe will appeal to a wider audience but still retain our existing loyal followers. We have decided to go back to the roots of the indigo identity which when launched 5 years ago had a distinct emphasis on Seafood and Grills.

Let’s face it we are by the sea and our Head chef, Ben Miller is highly experienced in cooking seafood as many of you already know from our seafood events (more of that later!) and likewise our butcher supplies some of the finest meat in Sussex – our Chateaubriands are legendary! The new menu is unpretentious with excellent unfussy dishes where the natural flavours of the produce can be savoured.

Yes you can have a lobster which is delicious but fresh Fish in crisp beer batter when done properly is equally excellent we now offer both

In essence we don’t want guest to feel that dining at Indigo has to be only on special occasions- the new prices and variety of dishes mean that going out with a group of friend or just as a is affordable

With prices for starters from £5:25 and mains for under £10:00 I genuinely believe

I am great fan of close up magic and over the years we have had a number of events celebrating the art of magic I really cannot recommend Paul highly enough – he really is at the top of his game!!

Dear Indigoer,

My missive is a little late this month - sorry!

Before we get down to business I need to share something with you - it is a story about a lion (yes I am on medication but I do not need to be restrained…yet!)

The story was on radio 4 on Saturday morning with the reverend Richard Coles - it’s not a religious story, as such, although the lion is called “Christian”
All will be explained If you go to BBC i player radio 4 (bla bla) and then google “Christian the lion” on YouTube.

Please watch it several million have already!

Now if you do not have a computer which are those of you that receive this missive by snail mail then to be very frank and to the point it’s HIGH TIME you got with it.

You can pick one up for a few £100’s and they are easy to operate as putting the kettle on! Which they need to be because anything more complicated and I couldn’t use them!

But the point is this it is an extraordinary story about a lion cub that was bought in Harrods in 1969 and then went to live in Kings road, Chelsea as a pet but eventually ….

To find out what happens (take a hanky), you will need to pop next door to your neighbour and watch it on their computer or go to the library or better still pop into Indigo and watch it on one of our laptop computers in our free wireless internet lounge. Hint hint!!
